Its that time of year again!!

Bears are awake, so please practice bear safety and awareness around the village and back roads at all times.

How you can be
BEAR AWARE!
  • The best way to prevent an unpleasant bear encounter is to avoid them all together. Bears usually avoid people, and most people don’t even know when they’ve come close to a bear.
  • Be sure to travel in groups and with dogs when on back roads.
  • Make lots of noise; Whistles are a great tool but our voices will deter bears just as well.
  • Be alert; refrain from wearing headphones and be aware of your surroundings.
  • If you have bear spray and/or bear bangers, please be sure you know how to properly use them and have them ready, just in case.
  • If you encounter a bear, remain calm and back away slowly. DO NOT RUN!
  • If you see a bear at a distance, please respect its space. Do not approach it, even to get a photo, and give it as much room as possible. Consider turning around and leaving the way you came. If you must continue, take a detour and give the bear a wide berth.
In most cases of a bear encounter, the bear will flee as long as it does not feel threatened and it has a clear escape route.
