JOB DESCRIPTION
The Wuikinuxv Nation Stewardship Office is looking for a Fisheries Reconciliation
Implementation Manager to work with our Fisheries Team, the community and local
partners. The Fisheries Reconciliation Implementation Manager will work on a variety
of projects that will support management planning processes, in season operational
decision-making, and research and monitoring activities within Wuikinuxv Nation
Territory. The ideal candidate will be a leader with a strong interest and experience
working with community-based fisheries or fisheries management.
PRIMARY DUTIES
Work with Wuikinuxv Fisheries team to facilitate the strategic planning and coordination of various Wuikinuxv projects and programs related to fish and aquatic species, especially work related to implementation of the Fisheries Resource Reconciliation Agreement
Project development and management including budgeting and reporting
Policy and procedure development
Work with Wuikinuxv Guardian Watchmen and other compliance and enforcement staff to monitor and enforce fisheries laws and policies
Collaborate with researchers or lead science based research or monitoring projects
Represent Wuikinuxv on relevant committees and technical working groups.
Maintain effective communication with internal Wuikinuxv Nation staff, council, committees, as well as external governments and organizations
Develop communication materials, and sharing information with the broader community
QUALIFICATIONS
Post-Secondary degree or diploma related to fisheries management or a related discipline;
3 to 5 years of experience working in Fisheries Resource Management;
Awareness of the importance of Indigenous laws, rights and title issues and traditional ecological knowledge to fisheries management;
Knowledge of federal and provincial law related to fisheries management;
Understanding of and experience with ecosystem-based management and its application to resource and economic development in the marine environment;
Experience as a leader with a clear and collaborative approach and strong project management skills, including ability to manage multiple work plans and complex projects simultaneously;
Strong writing and analytical skills;
Experience with managing budgets and writing project reports;
Strong communication and public relations skills;
Computer skills, including familiarity with MS word & excel
Additional qualifications and characteristics
that are important for the position include:
Familiarity with Wuikinuxv Territory and stewardship values;
Experience working with First Nations, stakeholders, and government agencies;
Understanding of fisheries science and management activities within the BC coast;
Field experience conducting fisheries research, and managing field crews to implement research initiatives;
Demonstrated ability to train field staff on survey methods and experimental design;
Experience with research project management, data entry and analysis, and report writing;
Personal characteristics such as team oriented, integrity, self-motivated, conscientious, persistent and leadership abilities;
Experience with vessel operation and/or maintenance;
Experience with field research or work in remote locations;
Willingness to travel to and work from Rivers Inlet on a regular basis
POSITION DETAILS
Full-time
Wage: $55,000 - 70,000 + benefits, depending on qualifications and experience
Reports directly to Stewardship Director and works collaboratively with all members of Stewardship Team
