Maintenance Worker II (2)




The Maintenance Worker team is responsible for performing a variety of labour activities and community services for the daily operations of the Wuikinuxv Nation Operations and Maintenance Department (“O&M Dept.”) Specifically, the Maintenance Worker team oversees the Nation’s community buildings, roads, bridges, airstrip, wharf and float, water system, wastewater system, equipment, vehicles, fire protection and other community infrastructure.


The Wuikinuxv Nation seeks a highly motivated individual with a strong eye for detail to fill the full-time position of Maintenance Worker II, reporting to the Capital Manager on all aspects of the position. The Maintenance Worker II is expected to work 35 hours per week. The hours will be flexible and include evenings and weekends as deemed necessary.


DUTIES

Duties include involvement in any of the following activities:

  • first-aid;

  • health and safety requirements;

  • maintenance of community infrastructure (as identified above);

  • alarm notifications response;

  • support for events;

  • regular scheduled inspections;

  • recycling and transfer station work;

  • responding to barges (fuel, supplies, transfer station, equipment, etc.);

  • general repairs, maintenance and light construction;

  • work with various government agencies and regulatory;

  • work with contractors when needed;

  • work with heavy duty equipment when needed;

  • record all maintenance work performed (on paper timesheets);

  • maintain inventory control and report required repairs;

  • input into the budget and updates for the O&M;

  • work with the Nicknaqueet hydro team;

  • maintain diesel generator operations;

  • follow established operations and maintenance manual;

  • follow all Wuikinuxv Nation policies and protocols;

  • any other duties or projects as assigned by the Capital Manager and/or Tribal Manager.


QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications include:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent experience;

  • buildings and infrastructure practices and regulations, public works and utilities practices and principles, waterworks, basic math and chemistry;

  • maintenance and troubleshooting of equipment;

  • communication skills, able to work independently and without supervision;

  • able to read technical drawings and manuals;

  • time management;

  • problem solver, customer-oriented, critical thinking, attention to detail;

  • must be in excellent physical condition and able to lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds (lbs);

  • good interpersonal skills to deal with the Wuikinuxv Nation community residents;

  • strong organizational, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills;

  • good computer/software skills;

  • basic project management skills/experience (will be an asset);

  • basic understanding of residential/commercial repairs and maintenance;

  • basic understanding of electrical, plumbing and construction practices;

  • basic understanding of sewer systems for maintenance and repairs;

  • basic understanding of roads, culverts and proper ways to maintain them;

  • purchases and maintains machinery, equipment, tools—and associated repairs;

  • knowledge, experience in asset control, ordering materials and supplies for maintenance operations;

  • well-honed conflict resolution, negotiating and problem-solving skills.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Working environment conditions include:

  • works primarily onsite at the remote water or wastewater facility;

  • may be required to work outdoors and as such may be exposed to inclement weather;

  • may be exposed to hazards associated with working with electrical equipment;

  • may be required to respond to emergency situations, regardless of time of day;

  • good health, allowing one to perform physical tasks throughout the day;

  • must be able to stand on feet for prolonged periods of time;

  • must be able to be mobile and visit locations that can only be accessed by stairs or rough, uneven ground;

  • required to travel by vehicle (car/truck);

  • may be required to travel by boat.
