Dear Wuikinuxv Community Members,

I hope this message finds you well. We are excited to share the latest updates from the Wuikinuxv Nation Education Department as we prepare for an exciting new chapter in our educational journey. New School Name and K-12 Status

We are thrilled to announce the opening of our new school, officially named Wànukv q̓àq̓utha’ailas. With the receipt of our final letter of acceptance from Indigenous Services Canada (ISC), we are proud to confirm that we will officially operate as a K-12 school starting September 2024. This milestone is a significant achievement for our community, and we look forward to welcoming students of all ages to our new educational environment.

Introducing Our New Teachers:

We are excited to introduce two new teachers who will be joining our team this school year:

  • Marium Jindani will be teaching students in grades K-7.

  • Grace Chabuka will be teaching grades 8-12.

Both Marium and Grace bring valuable experience and enthusiasm to our school, and we are confident they will make a positive impact on our students.

Indigenous Teaching Curriculum

In June, we had the pleasure of collaborating with Collette Jones to develop an Indigenous teaching curriculum for our school. Collette has prepared WKO learning lessons for K-12 that will help our students connect deeply with our culture. This curriculum will be supported by our Culture Coordinator and the language department, who will provide instruction in Uik̓ala and Wuikinuxv culture.

Post-Secondary Education Programming:

Our Post-Secondary Education programming continues to thrive, with increasing participation from WKO members pursuing higher education. ISC has recognized our growth and has provided the necessary funding to support our post-secondary students throughout the 2024-2025 school year. This support is vital in helping our members achieve their academic goals and career aspirations.

Upcoming Meetings and Planning:

Please keep an eye out for invites to our Education Committee Meetings. Your participation is crucial as we discuss and support our education programming. Additionally, I am working on finalizing the 5-year plan, budget, and governance of our school, and aim to have these documents available by the end of October.

Thankyou for your continued support and engagement as we move forward with these exciting developments. We look forward to a successful school year and to working together to provide the best possible educational experience for our students.

Warm regards,
