A message from Kristin Woiwod CFS Band Representative

FNHA Counselling Support for First Nations Community Members

FreeMind Therapy offers counselling services for First Nations people living in British Columbia through funding provided by the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA). These services are designed to support mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical wellness and are available to eligible First Nations individuals across the province, including those living in remote communities.

Who Can Access This Service

Community members may be eligible if they:

Are First Nations with a Status Number

Live in British Columbia

Are eligible for mental health benefits through FNHA

FreeMind Therapy can assist with applying for FNHA coverage and will directly bill FNHA, meaning there is typically no cost to the client.

What Is Covered

Eligible individuals may receive up to 22 counselling sessions per year through FNHA funding. Counselling sessions are offered online or by phone, making services accessible to people living in both urban and rural communities.

Please note: FNHA does not cover missed appointments or cancellations with less than 48 hours notice, and clients may be responsible for those costs.

What Counselling Can Help With

Counselling can support individuals experiencing:

Trauma and intergenerational trauma

Anxiety and depression

Grief and loss

Relationship or family challenges

Substance use concerns

Stress and life transitions

Impacts of residential schools or colonial systems

Identity and cultural connection challenges

Culturally Informed Support

FreeMind Therapy counsellors are FNHA-approved providers with graduate-level training and have completed Indigenous Cultural Safety training (San’yas). Counselling can incorporate discussions about culture, identity, and healing if clients choose, or it can focus on general mental wellness support.

Additional Support Options

Métis individuals may be eligible for counselling through the Métis Counselling Connection Program, which may cover approximately 10 sessions depending on program availability.

How to Apply

Community members can apply online or contact FreeMind Therapy directly to get started.
