FNHA Resources

The links below connect our community members to important resources through the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA), the organization that administers health benefits for eligible First Nations people living in BC. Here you will find information on the Mental Wellness and Counselling Benefit, a list of registered mental health providers, an overview of the full Health Benefits Program, the latest program news and updates, and contact information if you need support or have questions about your coverage.

FNHA Mental Health Benefit

The First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) offers a Mental Wellness and Counselling (MWC) Benefit to eligible First Nations people living in BC with Indian status. This benefit covers counselling sessions with registered psychologists, clinical counsellors, and social workers. If you are going through a difficult time and need support, this page walks you through what is covered, how to access a provider, and how to find out if you are eligible. Telehealth options are also available for those who prefer virtual appointments.

FNHA Contact Us

Have questions about your health benefits or need help navigating FNHA services? The FNHA Contact Us page connects you with the right people. Health Benefits can be reached toll-free at 1-855-550-5454, by email at healthbenefits@fnha.ca, or by fax at 1-888-299-9222, Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The team is there to help you understand your coverage, find a provider, or ask about a claim.

FNHA First Nations Health Benefits Mental Health Provider List

This downloadable PDF from the FNHA provides a searchable list of mental health providers who are registered with the Health Benefits Program. To receive coverage for counselling services, you must see a provider on this list. If you are looking for a counsellor near you or want to confirm a provider's registration, this is a helpful place to start.

First Nations Treatment Centres in BC

If you or someone you know is struggling with substance use, support is available. The First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) funds a network of residential treatment centres across BC, offering culturally grounded programs for adults, youth, and families. Services vary by location and include individual and family counselling, cultural ceremonies, trauma-informed care, and support for concurrent mental health concerns.

Eligibility: FNHA funding is available to First Nations and Status clients aged 19 and older who have been living in BC for more than three months. Please note that Métis and Inuit clients are not eligible for FNHA funding.

How to Apply: Clients cannot self-refer. A counsellor or referral worker must complete the Referral Application Package online and fax it directly to the treatment centre(s) the client is applying to, addressed to the Intake Worker. There is no cost to the client or the Band.

To learn more or access the referral application, visit the FNHA Treatment Centres page.
